Daewangam Park (대왕암공원)

​Located on the coast of Dong-gu, Ulsan, 대왕암공원 (Daewangam Park) is one of Ulsan's most iconic scenic destinations. It is famous for its magnificent rocky shores, lush pine forests, and deep-blue ocean views.

​The name "Daewangam" translates to "Rock of the Great King," deeply tied to a fascinating historical legend.

​🐉 The Legend of Daewangam

​According to historical lore, King Munmu, the 30th ruler of the Silla Kingdom, wished to be buried in the East Sea after his death so he could transform into a dragon and protect his kingdom from foreign invaders (this tomb is located further south in Gyeongju).

​Following his footsteps, his queen also passed away and reportedly turned into a guardian dragon, flying to Ulsan and plunging into the waters beneath Daewangam Rock to eternally guard the East Sea.
